Tyre Pressure Monitor

Maintaining correct tyre pressure on a vehicle is important
for a number of reasons, if a tyre is under inflated, tyre life will be
reduced by over 50%, fuel economy can be reduced by as much as 10%, and
braking performance will be reduced by approximately 20%. This is obviously
important to all road users for safety reasons but to businesses involved
in transportation of any form of goods, materials or people; ensuring
tyre pressure is correct is also important to reduce running costs of
their vehicles.
With the development of wireless technology, a number
of hi-tech, wireless digital tyre pressure monitors have been developed
providing real-time data on the state of all the vehicles tyres even when
in motion. Sensors either fit onto the valves of each tyre or can be internally
wheel mounted, these sensors incorporate radio transmitters which transmit
the data to a receiver unit which often has a display situated on the
dashboard of the vehicle.
The receiver/display units generally run from
a 12V DC power supply (often connected to the car's battery) with the
sensors using batteries to power them. These units need to be compact,
lightweight, reliable, and be able to operate for extended periods in
harsh conditions, this specification links in with that of the battery
used to power the sensors. The Sonnenschein and Tadiran product range
offers a number of cells to meet such requirements in small sizes including
BEL, 1/10D and 1/6D size cells. These cells have a high voltage and capacity
ratings along with a wide operating temperature range with lightweight
robust construction.
